It's one thing to be aware of our essential core, our spiritual center, but it's another to be able to engage its power as we experience all the stresses of our jobs. Stress crowds out our willingness to engage. As one ANE member put it recently, "The willingness I feel on Sunday doesn't seem to carry over to Monday with sufficient force."
For we ANE leaders, one of the best pathways of tapping into our spiritual center is through truthful dialogue with others. When we stop focusing on our own needs and really focus on the other person, we take listening to a whole new spiritual level. It lifts us both.
This week, commit to finding a new level of attentiveness in your conversations with colleagues. If necessary, get tough with yourself in meetings and think: "It's not about me, it's about them." Simply focus on bringing your essential core to helping them.
You can tell when it's happening. It feels delightful, time just flies, and you walk away thinking that you achieved so much.
