The acclaimed Yale in New York series presents the Yale Philharmonia and conductor Shinik Hahm on Monday, February 28. Come to Carnegie Hall to hear them perform four twentieth-century pieces for chamber orchestra and soloists.

Featuring the New York premiere of Frank Martin's Ballade No. 2 for flute, string orchestra, piano, and percussion, originally written for saxophone in 1939. Ransom Wilson is the soloist in this recently rediscovered version for flute.

The program opens with Ernest Bloch's Concerto Grosso No. 1 for string orchestra (1925), with Jian Liu playing the piano obbligato part. Clarinetist David Shifrin and bassoonist Frank Morelli are the soloists in the Duet-Concertino (1947) of Richard Strauss. The orchestra concludes with Alberto Ginastera's colorful Variaciones concertantes, Op. 23 (1953).
