I am productive

"How can I do more with the resources - spiritual and physical - already around me?"

We set out to ask the following questions:

What can we draw on to help solve our day to day work issues?
How can we use those things more effectively?
How do we build a pattern of tapping into those things when we need them?

Thoughts from the group were

  • Visualisation - can be powerful tool when under pressure. Find a quiet environment, go away from immediate workplace and picture the goals being achieved productively. This enables you to think positively about a situation and keep productivity top of mind
  • Drive to be productive comes from demand for results - there is a fine line between being a leader and being manipulative. One's sense of being manipulative can be improved by using such tools as the prayer card
  • Working with people you don't like - how do you approach that? Is the dislike really a reflection of something in your own spiritual state? Start by managing the problem that lies within you rather than focus on the person you don't like
  • Challenge to work to be the best both for yourself and the people in your organisation. Interesting that we believe that productivity is about rushing around ourselves and not resting. "Hit the pause button" - taking time out to reflect is just as important.
  • It's easy to become so busy and judgemental. Walk away when stressed to a quiet place - when you walk back in say something nice, smile at the first person you see - changes your perspective

I am connected

Summary:

  • We get best results when we are at our best
  • Let go ourselves of the situation to give to the team
  • Team solutions invariably enrich
  • With a new team there is a tendency to show the team what you can do which can diminish using the strength of the team
  • Recognise skills & strengths of the team and learn to use them
  • Be prepared to give team space to show they can deliver, build their confidence
  • Varied ways of motivating our teams - healthy competition, supporting them, praising them
  • Trust your team as individuals and as a team - always start from that perspective
  • With a failing team, don't fail also in your attitude - numbers may be against the team but that doesn't mean your attitude should correspond ("don't mirror crappy numbers with a crappy attitude"!)
  • Build a team by involving and asking questions
  • Best way to ask questions is to listen
  • Make sure you are truly listening and wanting to process things from your team
  • Wider communication rather than email - VAK - Visual, Audio, Kinetic - how do we use them
  • Voice is better than email
