Did you ever leave a meeting thinking, "That was a real downer." Chances are you were part of a team focusing really hard on what's missing, rather than what's available. Repeated negativity, in a group setting, rapidly becomes the downward spiral to group victimhood, isolation, and defensiveness. Poor results always follow, often amplified by group gossip.
As ANE leaders, we work to manage these situations differently. By accepting the spiritual dimension of our work, we are mindful of the presence of a greater power that we can touch to help steer the group to better outcomes. Yet, as we learn how to put this idea into practice, we also discover how hard it can be to fire up our willingness and receptivity when we, too, are in the spiral. That's why ANE leaders help each other.
This week, each day make a call to someone you trust and share your downward spirals. Invite them to give you one suggestion, from their experience, that might work for you.
You'll both have a far better week.
