Are you busy? Everybody seems to be these days, so I imagine you are rushing in and out of many situations. So how can you find time to make this week better than last?
The answer lies in your balance as you approach each situation. The feeling of being too busy is a symptom that physical, mental, and spiritual energy are being drained. When we operate below par, our performance requires even more busy activity to sort things out. We can end up on the downward spiral to victimhood. "My time just isn't my own any more!"
One tool that counteracts busyness and restores balance is spiritual detachment. It means taking a few moments to get calm, mentally step out of the flow, and look at the whole situation. This week, whenever you feel the busyness bug biting you, take a few moments to connect to your inner core, your spiritual center, through a momentary prayer or affirmation. And then try mentally picturing you and your situation on a stage in a theatre from the balcony view. Each time your calm mind spends a few seconds in the balcony, your sense of balance is being restored.
Detachment like this gets the spiritual dimension of our lives continually informing and directing the other parts. Our values are in dialog with our decisions; our appreciation of day to day tasks is heightened; our busyness fades into the background.
