All these signals of economic uncertainty build up our fears. It's as though things beyond our control have taken over, others are gaining and we are losing, and our jobs, careers and families are at risk.
Ask yourself: Who is the successful leader in these times? Is it someone who acts on the negative impulses and amplifies his or her effect throughout the team or the organization? Or is it the ANE leader who, to the best of his or her ability, stands firm against the negative thoughts by expanding his or her spiritual connection? Surely, it's a growth opportunity.
This week, focus on the facts not the feelings. Recognize that many people in your organization are experiencing uncertainty, and whenever you can, focus on what's working rather than what's not. Point out people's strengths--not their weaknesses, their successes--not their failures, the productive relationships--not the problematic ones, the keepers--not the losers. Refuse to go down the negative spiral by saying to yourself in every situation:
There's good for us here, and
I'm going to see we get it.
