Quote from an ANE leader as she was talking with others at our recent US social evening:
"Using the ANE prayer card has turned my working life around."
If ANE exists to energize spiritually intentional leaders to fully engage their beliefs in the workplace, then prayer or affirmation, usually spoken silently, must surely be one of the most basic elements in the ANE leaders' toolkit. No matter what someone's faith, this simple act of stopping and inviting a power greater than ourselves into our circumstance is indispensable in getting us to the calm, confident, connected place we need.
The problem for me is that I forget to do it!
So I carry the card with me. I keep another on my desk. I keep a recording of my favorite workplace prayer (here) and my favorite affirmation (here) on my phone. I make quick calls to ANE people throughout the day so we can safely pray together. And I try to take a moment to get centered and be grateful before I start every meeting.
What works for you? Praying is not just for when we are in the soup (as in "If you get me out of this mess with my boss I promise I'll be a better person.") It's also about helping us discover better ways to work (as in "Show me the pathway forward you would have me take.")
So this week, pray.
Stephen
