Prediction: This week your job will be challenging, and some of the challenges will be well beyond anything you are expecting.
It's an easy prediction to make. No matter how hard we try, the world never conforms sufficiently to our own game plans. It's futile to expect anything else. Regrettably, I have to admit that I sometimes waste lots of time and energy trying.
What's important to us as ANE leaders is how we react when these challenges arise. There's a choice. It's one that people like to watch us make. We can object and fight the world to get back in line with our expectations, or we can "let it go," accept the facts, and move quickly into dealing with the truth of the situation.
I call the time it takes me get to the point of "letting go" my Time To Surrender. When I'm conscious that my leadership is not the be all and end all, that there is a power greater than me supporting me, my Time To Surrender is short and my balance is sustained. When I'm not consciously making the connection to my spiritual core, my time and emotions quickly get consumed going down unnecessary spirals of worry and frustration.
How long will your Time To Surrender be this week when these challenges arise? The answer depends on how well you are able to draw upon your spiritual resources in those moments.
What differentiates us as ANE leaders is that we each choose to bring our unique internal belief systems into our job, not to convert other people's thinking to ours, but to give us the power to be better leaders by drawing on more of our internal resources.
Will your unique internal belief system go to work with you this week? It's hard to imagine leaving it in your car! So why not use it when you are challenged?
