People love to talk about moments where their inner core, their spiritual center, was perfectly aligned to their team circumstances. Perhaps in sport, at school, or in business, we've all known those moments. Times of exhilaration at being in complete command, or when our sense of connection to teammates, of being in the zone, was absolutely superb. Have you known these occasions? They are times of deeply meaningful and productive connections to colleagues.
Do they happen by luck, or is there something we can do to bring more of them into our complex working lives?
Remember that your spiritual center is not just the barometer of relationships, it is the forecaster. When we go into situations balanced, open, optimistic, and friendly, the positive connections are far more likely. But let our fears enter the situation, like fear of losing money, power, or recognition, and the downstream effect limits success - defensiveness creates distance, hesitation limits contribution, and isolation seeds mistrust.
For the ANE leader, our workplace relationships are always an ever-changing reflection of our own inner core. We focus less on what we lack or on trying to be like others. Instead, we try to let the truth of our workplace expand and nourish our spirituality. In turn this enriches all our workplace activities and relationships.
It takes a little courage to overcome any relationships. This week, look for relationships where you feel you may have gotten off on the wrong foot, and try pressing the reset button: "I'm sorry things may have started poorly, may we discuss how we get things going far better?"
