"I had a traumatic discussion with my boss," said Tommy. "After working night and day for nine months, they now want us to reduce headcount by ten percent and increase margin. I told him we can't. I just called my team together and told them. They're going nuts."
"Can you see," I asked, "how one conversation with your boss has started to infect your entire organization? Your job is not simply to be the front guy. You also have a responsibility to the unique spiritual core of every person. How can they make wise and ethical choices when they're going nuts?"
"Okay, how do we start returning to being rational?" he asked.
"Start with yourself. First do the things that help you find your connection to your spiritual core so you can become fully present for them. You like prayer and meditation so I suggest using it. Then call another meeting and engage them with your calm, confident self. I'm sure more positive solutions will emerge."
How many unnecessary streams of activity start from leadership conversations where we fail to check our spiritual core?
