"What's the return on spiritual investment for my job?" someone asked. "You say you want me to try ANE's leadership and spirituality events, but how do I justify the time and expense to my boss?"
Despite my initial reaction to the question (OMG!), I love this kind of challenge because it helps to clarify our purpose and role. Clearly, if we said our community is about cost reduction, selling, or using new technologies, the precise ROI can be estimated. But learning spiritually intentional leadership doesn't mean the ROI isn't there. We simply have to keep learning to express spiritual concepts in business language.
Our premise, born out by market research, is that spiritually intentional practices imbue leaders with more confidence, calm, and connectedness with colleagues. And when leaders with more of these qualities go about their decision making, their outcomes are better in both short and long term through increased effectiveness and sphere of influence.
I like to explain this by breaking leadership down into discrete moments of decision making, each with a downstream consequence as a result. If those moments are led with more faith, balance, self-confidence, trust, creativity, determination,....... are they more likely to produce more constructive outcomes? We say, "Absolutely." We also encourage ANE leaders to share their results in the language of the workplace so we can all benefit.
But remember, we are learning about inner leadership qualities, and these are often less precise than new sales, cost reductions or new technologies.
