End of the year's coming. Will you be going to holiday parties, bonus celebrations, or leaving bashes?
"People confuse fun with fulfillment, especially as the holidays approach," said Joe.
"You're not going all 'Bah! Humbug!' on me, are you?" I countered.
"Absolutely not. The real joy of work is about giving ourselves to others," he continued. "This happens be a time when society says it's okay to have fun. But fun doesn't scratch the deep itch for the joy of knowing our work has meaning. That takes spiritual leadership."
Parties are a wonderful time to help colleagues rediscover the deeper joy while they relax. Your chief tools are your faith in your organization's purpose, genuine gratitude, encouragement and listening.
By January, how many people or groups will you have personally thanked for helping you? More than the number of parties you attend?
