I established a clear Board by ‘telling’ many individuals they were actually on my Board, channeling my inner Trump “You’re Fired” to others who occupied seats at the table (living and dead), and made a commitment to consult members more frequently.
The feedback I have received from my Board members has all been helpful but clearly not easy to hear. I have been challenged to value my strengths more and also deliver to my potential. My weaknesses have been painted vividly when I have inquired. The insight I have gained through others has been very helpful as my receptiveness has increased. My Board has diversified and includes individuals of many professional backgrounds, and I even have incorporated some “scientific advisors” whom I can count on to challenge my views at every juncture.
Although the formal utilization of The Board is relatively new, I have used the construct informally for years. I am a better person professionally and personally when I incorporate my Board in my decisions. I realize that the inclusion of others dramatically enhances my accountability for success and delivers fulfillment beyond my previous experiences.
I have grown concerned recently as some Board members want to go on a board retreat in the Caribbean……………………..any suggestions?
