Here's a test of being spiritually engaged at work.
Scenario 1: A colleague bumps into you at work and decides to start bad-mouthing a mutual colleague. Do you join in? Or, being spiritually aware of the destructive power of gossip, do you surrender the temptation and let the conversation (or you) go elsewhere?
Scenario 2: Same situation, only this time the gossipping colleague is an influential senior executive inviting you to join in criticizing another senior leader. There's a far more powerful incentive to join in, isn't there? It's the destructive force of gossip turbocharged with leadership power.
Of course, it's terrible leadership. But it happens in business. And it's a test of faith we all fail.
The great news is that the same force that works in the negative direction works in the positive too. The best leaders engage themselves spiritually to overcome these tendencies and bring God-qualites to conversations. The outcome is not negativity and fear, but positive behaviors and sustained results. Which type will you be this week?
People desire the deep connection to the compassion, truth, and hope of their leaders. Superb video of why we are all wired for it.
