What the world says is good for us and what we really need can be so different. A great example is believing our career purpose is solely personal wealth and status.
"I drove this business 24/7 for ten years for the owners," said Dan. "Now they've fired me. I've been telling myself for years they were cheating and I should leave, and today they threw me out. After promising me for years they would make me an owner. Now what?"
Inner thoughts and intuitions like Dan's come bubbling up from our inner core. Denying them suppresses our true spiritual identity, which has to find expression. Sometimes the burst of spiritual pressure can be this dramatic. (For more on understanding your workplace Spiritual Identity try our book)
Dan was in the angry phase. I gave him one of our workplace prayer cards and suggested he use it. We arranged to meet three weeks later at A New Equilibrium's Inspired Hour.
"It really helped. I like the calm me," he said when we met. "I can't tell you how many times I pushed my spiritual connection to one side at work. I'm discovering a new strength in dealing with people and situations as I'm doing my new job search."
Is your inner core sending you signals of wanting to help your career?
This week, focus on being the greater good you can be. Not only what the world says you should be, but also invite your spiritual core to be fully engaged in supporting you and those around you as you work to make the world a better place.
All good to you,
Stephen
