"OMG," Cathie texted. "Our CEO says that we're reorganizing again. Aagh!"
Yes, job transitions are painful. We invest so much in our careers and then the blistering pace of change torpedoes us. Is this something people outside the business world can ever fully understand? Business announcements are just surface statements of the truth. They don't help the bewildering deeper attitudes awakened - sadness, anxiety, resentment, shame of winning at others' expense, hostility, and so on. Often we feel completely isolated without the resources to defend ourselves.
How to best manage through the valley?
We can look outside us for quick solutions to relieve the pain, but they take us away from something bad not toward something better.
Assurance at our inner core, deep within us, is the key. We know we shouldn't act on all these negative feelings, so ruling our mishmash of thoughts is our main concern. We need an inner core that is calm, confident, and strong to assess our situation and make good plans.
That's where A New Equilibrium comes in. We see this as a spiritual issue, common to people of all faiths, that needs personalized solutions. A New Equilibrium provides tools and a learning environment for a new way, one that works for all job transitions.
"Cathie, use one of our reflection cards!" I texted back.
A week later she emailed. "I'm less stressed, more calm. People are responding differently to me during this time, especially my team. I'm leading with a sense of security and certainty. It shows in our results. This stuff is really good!"
All good to you this week,
Stephen
