Many Christmas trees are coming down, the Menorah has been put away, the elf has left the shelf, The Ball has dropped, and now many are putting their house back in order. As A New Equilibrium begins 2015, collectively we offer to all reading these weekly emails a time to reflect on the content and participation in a call with other Spiritually Intentional Leaders.
The last message addressed emergency preparations with this week moving specifically to the focus of your leadership. In the hospital business we considered patient care in three distinct phases: Admission “Entering the House,” Primary Treatment “Being in the House,” and Discharge “Leaving the House.” The paradigm of the house has been very helpful for the patient experience as well as the business, but clearly has application in Management.
Entering the House. How do you recruit new employees or customers into your business? Do you use flashy signs, promises, and exceptional work environment? What do other customers, staff say before people consider joining or utilizing the services of the organization? How available are you as a leader?
Being in the House. Does the first customer or employee impression match the hype? Over promise, under deliver? Under promise, over deliver? Is the customer, the employee provided the right amount of guidance with the appropriate autonomy? Are you as a leader present, omni present, or nowhere to be found? Is the collective experience based on supporting success for everyone or a chosen few?
Leaving the House. When customers, employees leave which door do they leave throug--Front or Back? Is the experience one that will engage the customer to return? Did your employees walk out as proud and lauded as they walked in? Do you hide the negative customer, employee experiences in a closet in the back room? Is your leadership using the “leaving” experience to improve all other areas?
The guidance from Psalm 127 is clear, “Unless the Lord builds the house, its builders labor in vain.”
Share your straw house, twig house, brick house, glass house, and fortress stories on Tuesday morning.
